I have always loved promoting local brands. To me local entrepreneurs have an authenticity to them that is unparalleled. I can appreciate the effort they put into doing what they love and making a living from it. This is why meeting Rachael was such a pleasure.
Rachel from Rachel’s Touch Designs is passionate about her business and tenaciously channels all her creativity into it. Rachel’s Touch Designs is an upscale women's clothing boutique, which has been in operation since November 2010. Rachel’s Touch, named after the founder and her golden touch in every apparel, defines the boutique and its essence of inclusion. Rachael is a Style Concierge who's innovative style assessments and educational emphasis helps women boost their confidence and develop their very own personal styles.
Rachel’s Touch boutique has ready-to-wear (RTW) designs and casual/contemporary apparel & accessories for children, men and women. We chose to do the shoot in the streets to display the 'everyday' RTW look the line showcases. We started with the gentlemen rocking their t-shirts. I loved how Rachael creatively executed the whole look with a touch of African print. The men held it down pretty well.
The ladies were fierce and rocked each piece with so much ease.
Children were not left out in the collection. The girls look fabulous in their Rachel originals. Don't they all look amazing?!
Did I mention that she organized this entire shoot while heavily pregnant and gave birth a week later?! Talk about a go-getter and superwoman. That's Rachel! She is photographed above with her husband. Keep up the amazing work lady! I can't wait to shoot your next line ...

The ability to work with and support local businesses is one of the opportunities that photography has afforded me. In today's post, I introduce you to The Design Practice (DP): your interior and exterior design partners based in Harare, Zimbabwe. The DP team is a multifaceted family oriented business that tackles issues to do with personalised design elements for interior and exterior environments based on the clients needs.
The DP exterior team have a myriad of plants and flowers that give your home and/or business the 'lift' that it deserves. They surely do become your exterior partners! Yes, this is a #shamelessplug for a business that truly delivers both in terms of product and service.
Meet the lovely Edith, the exterior design "guru" of DP. I worked with Edith whose creativity and attention to detail completely permeates this nursery and her work. As we walked through the nursery, Edith was keen to share her thought process when working with clients - listen and then amaze them Erene - is what she said in a nutshell (shh don't tell her I told you!). She literally took 'nothing' and used her passion for gardening and turned it into a garden filled with colors, smells and so much life! She took her 'green thumb' to new levels and created this thriving business in the heart of Harare! There is nothing like a #girlboss and this one - ladies and gentlemen is on fire!
Welcome to the plant paradise! When I first walked onto the DP nursery, I was blown away (but don't take my word for it - keep scrolling)! I did not know where to begin snapping because everything was so rich in color and she had placed so many hidden gems amidst the plants. It felt as though you were in The Secret Garden (did you guys ever watch that movie?). The nursery was a true reflection of its founder - vibrant! I love how organized the whole place is. All plants were clearly labelled - to help the novices like myself out. Edith talked about how she always knows which plant suits which client. She almost has a sixth sense when it comes to making these recommendations!
Walking through the nursery evoked a sense of serenity that I completely credited to Edith's executed vision that is this nursery. The melange of the signs, plants and exterior 'accessories' made the place have an air of whimsy!
Now, a photoshoot is never truly wrapped without portraits of my clients absorbed in their work!
All I can say is that you have to stop by! If only to experience the serenity and vibrancy of the nursery! Edith and her wonderful team will definitely take the time to help you figure it all out! If there is one thing that I have grown to appreciate with time is a well designed space. A well designed space to me is one that creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. And honestly, who does not want their guests to feel welcomed when in their homes? Interior design plays a key role in creating this 'atmosphere'. I believe that how a space's interior is designed, can affect an individual's mood and how we function. So when The Design Practice (DP): a Harare based interior design firm, reached out to me to photograph their most recent home, I jumped at the opportunity - armed with my camera and ready to learn new design tricks!
Meet Vimbayi: the head interior designer at The Design Practice. DP is a resourceful and creative business that offers personalized interior and exterior design services.
When evaluating a space, they aim to offer tailor-made solutions based on the client's taste, budget and use of the space.
I took great interest in how varied the lighting in this home was. It was a showcase and a true testament to the power of good lighting!
The furniture on display was not only built by local artisans but was also designed by Vimbayi herself. Talk about talent! Her influence and her luxurious taste was evident in every piece of furniture all the way to the drapes - from the textile to how they hang on the wall!
The kitchen turned out to be one of my favorite spaces. Marvel with me at the level of organization in this space! It's all about the neutrals - which are so on trend at the moment - and the clean lines. The team definitely has their finger on the pulse of what is current in the industry.
I moved into the kids room next! It was so full of color and vibrancy. Design Practice did an amazing job mixing prints and textures.
A photoshoot is never complete without a portrait of my client! Meet the lovely Vimbayi. It was amazing working with you. Thus far, I have had the privilege of photographing spaces and events that they have done and they never cease to amaze me. I got so inspired by this #ladyboss that I will write up a second post introducing you all to The Design Practice Exterior Partner, Edith.
